Why It Is a System and Not a Product

A single-product floor coating has to be moisture tolerant, high-build, impact resistant, chemically resistant, UV stable, fast curing, and cheap. No chemistry is all of those at once. Every one-bucket warehouse floor coating on the market is a compromise, and the compromise usually shows up in the second winter.

Splitting the job across layers removes the compromise. OR-E41 epoxy primer only has to wet into the profile and tolerate residual slab moisture. OR-621 basecoat only has to carry film build and absorb impact. OR-75DCL, a polyaspartic, only has to be the wear and chemistry surface — and because it does not have to be the adhesion layer, it can be formulated for cure speed and UV stability instead.

That is why a properly sequenced system returns a bay to forklift traffic on a same-day schedule while a thick single-coat epoxy is still soft on day three.

Concrete Preparation

Profile. The slab must be opened to CSP 3–5 by diamond grinding or shot blasting. Acid etching does not reliably produce that profile on a hard-troweled warehouse slab and leaves residue behind. If you can wipe a finger across the prepped floor and get chalk, the prep is not done.

Moisture. Test before you spec. ASTM F1869 calcium chloride gives you a vapor emission rate in pounds per 1,000 sq ft per 24 hours; ASTM F2170 gives you internal relative humidity from an in-situ probe. Slab-on-grade without a functioning vapor retarder — which describes a great many older warehouses — can drive numbers that will blister any coating not primed for it. That is a design decision, not a field surprise, and OR-E41 exists partly to handle it.

Joints and cracks. Everything gets treated before the primer goes down. Saw-cut control joints, cold joints, spalled edges, and popouts are repaired with Concrete Mender, which penetrates into the surrounding matrix and cures into it. Unlike a semi-rigid filler dropped into a void, the repair carries load across the joint edge rather than sitting inside it.

Contamination. Oil, hydraulic fluid, and forklift battery acid all have to come out before profiling, not after. A degreased and then ground floor is clean; a ground and then degreased floor has driven the contamination into the open profile.

OR-75DCL or OR-ACR-42?

OR-75DCL is the default topcoat for most warehouse work. Polyaspartic chemistry, UV stable so it will not amber under skylights or near dock doors, fast enough to hand a bay back the same day, and hard enough to take hard-tire wheel traffic without burnishing.

OR-ACR-42 is specified where the chemical exposure profile or the installation window points a different direction. Some spill environments and some overnight-only work schedules favor it.

Send us the exposure list — what actually gets spilled, how often it gets scrubbed, what the wheels are made of, and how many hours you can give us — and we will tell you which topcoat the floor wants. We would rather spec the correct one than the more expensive one.
